Pressure Control Solenoid A Performance or Stuck Off
What it means
The transmission control module (TCM) has found that pressure control solenoid A is roughly fine electrically, but the hydraulic pressure or shift behavior does not match what the computer commands. This can cause slipping or delayed shifts, which speeds up clutch wear if it continues.
Symptoms5
- Slipping during shifts, with engine speed rising without a matching gain in road speed.
- Late or soft shifts.
- Harsh shifts in some cases, depending on the solenoid design.
- Transmission entering limp mode.
- Check engine light on.
Possible causes6
- Low, old or wrong-type transmission fluid.
- Pressure control solenoid stuck or clogged with debris.
- Clogged transmission filter reducing pressure.
- Worn passages or valves in the valve body.
- Internal leaks from clutch seals or rings.
- Weak transmission oil pump (less common).
How to diagnose5
- Check fluid level, color and smell, and confirm the fluid type specified by the manufacturer.
- On a road test, watch the commanded pressure and gear ratios on a scan tool to see when slipping occurs.
- Have line pressure measured with a gauge and compare it with the manufacturer specification.
- Inspect the pan and filter for metal particles or clutch material.
- Bench test the removed solenoid on a solenoid tester if one is available.
How to fix6
- Top up with the correct fluid, or change it and the filter.
- Replace the pressure control solenoid if it is proven to stick or be weak.
- Clean or replace the valve body if its passages are worn.
- Repair internal leaks or rebuild the transmission if clutch or pump wear is proven.
- Update the transmission computer software if the manufacturer has released an update for this fault.
- Clear the codes, run the shift adaptation relearn if the manufacturer requires it, then road test.
Repair cost
In Saudi riyals; the highlighted part is the expected range for this fault.
The cost is low when a fluid change or a new solenoid fixes it, and rises if a new valve body or internal transmission repair is needed.
Prices are rough estimates for common cars at independent workshops and vary with the car and the source of the part.

Frequently asked questions
Can I drive with this code?
Only short distances and gently, because slipping overheats the clutches and wears them quickly; the longer you drive, the more likely a rebuild becomes.
Why test pressure instead of just replacing the solenoid?
Low pressure can come from the filter, pump or an internal leak, and a pressure test shows whether the solenoid is really at fault before you pay for one.
This guide is for information only and does not replace an inspection by a qualified technician. If the fault involves brakes, steering, engine temperature, electrics or refrigerant, do not attempt the repair yourself.
