What it means
The transmission control module (TCM) has found that a shift between gears did not happen as commanded; the ratio between input and output speed did not change in the expected time or changed incorrectly. - Check for a software update or service bulletin from the manufacturer for this symptom.

Can I keep driving until I have time to fix it?
It is not recommended. Repeated slipping burns the clutches quickly, and the longer you drive, the more likely a simple repair becomes a rebuild.
Does a software update really fix it?
Sometimes, if the manufacturer released an update that corrects shift timing, but it cannot fix mechanical damage, so fluid and pressure are checked too.
