What it means

The transmission or engine computer has detected transmission fluid pressure lower than expected, based on the pressure sensor or switch reading. Low pressure means the clutches inside the transmission may not be applied firmly enough, causing slipping and wear if driving continues.

Transmission slipping, or engine speed rising without an increase in road speed.
Delayed engagement when selecting Drive or Reverse.
Transmission enters protection mode and stays in one gear.
Check engine light or transmission warning light on.

Check the transmission fluid level, condition and smell using the manufacturer method.
Look for leaks around the transmission and cooler lines.
Watch actual and desired pressure readings on a scan tool if available.
Inspect the pressure sensor, its wiring and connector.
Have actual line pressure measured with a mechanical gauge and compare it with the manufacturer specification.

Repair the leak and top up with the specified fluid.
Change the transmission fluid and filter.
Repair the wiring or replace the pressure sensor if proven faulty.
Replace the pressure control solenoid or valve body based on the findings.
Repair the pump or rebuild the transmission if internal wear is confirmed.
Clear the codes, road test and confirm smooth shifting and that the code does not return.
