What it means

This code appears on Samsung dishwashers with a digital display when not enough water enters the machine within the set time. The cycle stops before washing begins, and the cause is usually a closed tap, a kinked hose or a blocked inlet screen. The same code can mean something else on other brands; on Samsung washing machines 4C is also a water supply error, but the checks differ.

Symptoms4

• 4C appears a few minutes after the program starts, with no sound of water entering.
• The bottom of the dishwasher stays dry or holds very little water.
• Dishes stay dirty because washing never started.
• The code may repeat when water pressure is low at certain times.

Possible causes7

• Supply tap under the sink closed or only partly open.
• Inlet hose kinked behind the machine or under the cabinet.
• Mesh screen at the end of the inlet hose clogged with sediment.
• Low household water pressure.
• Safety valve in the leak-protection (Aquastop-type) inlet hose triggered, on models that have one.
• Faulty water inlet valve or flow meter.
• Main board fault (less common).

How to diagnose6

1. Unplug the dishwasher and make sure the tap under the sink is fully open.
2. Check the inlet hose is not kinked or crushed when the machine is pushed into the cabinet.
3. Close the tap, disconnect the hose and rinse the mesh screen at its end under running water.
4. Check the indicator window on the leak-protection hose if fitted; if it shows the protection has triggered, there is a leak that needs a technician.
5. A technician unplugs the machine before opening it, then checks the inlet valve, flow meter and their wiring against the manufacturer specification.
6. If those parts are good, the technician checks the main board.

How to fix6

1. Open the tap fully and straighten the inlet hose.
2. Clean the mesh screen at the end of the hose and refit it firmly.
3. Replace the leak-protection hose if its valve has triggered, after the technician finds the leak cause.
4. Replace the inlet valve or flow meter if confirmed faulty.
5. Repair or replace the main board only if it is confirmed as the cause.
6. Run a short program and confirm water enters and the code does not return.
