What it means

This code appears on Samsung front-load and top-load washing machines when the leak sensor finds water in the base of the washer, or the water level behaves in a way that suggests a leak; older models show the same fault as LE. The washer stops the cycle and may run the drain pump to protect the room from flooding. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

Symptoms4

• LC appears and the washer stops mid-wash.
• Water on the floor under or around the washer.
• The drain pump keeps running even though the cycle has stopped.
• Thick suds coming out of the detergent drawer or around the door.

Possible causes7

• Drain pump filter cap not closed tightly after cleaning.
• Inlet or drain hose loose at a connection or cracked.
• Excess suds from the wrong detergent or too much of it overflowing from the drawer.
• Torn or damaged door seal on a front-loader.
• Leak from internal hoses or the drain pump.
• Leak from the tub or tub shaft seal (less common).
• Faulty leak sensor or sensor wiring.

How to diagnose6

1. Turn off the water tap and unplug the washer right away, and dry the floor before any check.
2. Make sure the drain pump filter cap is tight and both ends of the inlet and drain hoses are secure.
3. Inspect the detergent drawer and door seal for suds residue, tears or caught clothing.
4. Check the detergent type and amount; detergent not made for automatic washers can be the cause.
5. If no clear source is found, a technician unplugs the washer before opening it and traces the leak in the internal hoses, pump and tub.
6. Drying the base of the washer may clear the code for a while, but that is only a fix after the technician has found and repaired the leak source.

How to fix6

1. Close the pump filter cap tightly and secure the external hose connections.
2. Replace a cracked inlet or drain hose.
3. Use detergent made for automatic washers, in the correct amount.
4. Replace a torn door seal.
5. The technician repairs the leaking internal hose or pump, then dries the base and the leak sensor.
6. Run a short supervised cycle and confirm there is no water under the washer and the code does not return.
