HV Battery Malfunction
What it means
This is a Toyota hybrid-specific code; the same number can mean something else on other makes. The hybrid control system detected a fault in the high-voltage (HV) battery or its monitoring system, and an information (sub) code, readable only with a Toyota-capable hybrid scan tool, identifies the exact fault. The car may run with limited power or may not reach READY.
Models covered: Toyota hybrids, mainly earlier generations (e.g. Prius 2001–2009, Camry Hybrid 2007–2011).
Symptoms4
- Hybrid system warning with the master warning light and check engine light.
- Noticeably weak acceleration as the system limits battery use.
- Engine running constantly and higher fuel consumption.
- READY does not appear, or the car will not start, in severe cases.
Possible causes5
- Aged HV battery modules with some voltages drifting from the rest.
- Battery overheating from a dust-clogged cooling intake or filter, or a failed cooling fan.
- Deep discharge of the battery, for example after driving until the fuel ran out.
- Corroded internal module connections.
- Battery control unit or sensing wiring fault.
How to diagnose5
- Check the 12V auxiliary battery and terminals first, since a weak one causes scattered hybrid warnings and faults.
- Read the code and its information sub-code with a scan tool that supports Toyota hybrid systems.
- Watch each module block voltage, the spread between blocks and battery temperature.
- Inspect the battery cooling intake, filter and fan.
- Any work inside the battery or on the orange cables must be done only by a technician trained for high voltage.
How to fix5
- Charge or replace the 12V battery if it is weak.
- Clean the battery cooling intake and filter and repair the fan.
- Repair battery connections or the battery control unit as the information code indicates.
- Replace weak modules or the whole pack with a new or warranted reconditioned unit.
- Clear the codes and confirm module voltages stay balanced after a drive.
Repair cost
In Saudi riyals; the highlighted part is the expected range for this fault.
Cleaning or a 12V battery is at the low end; a new dealer HV battery exceeds the general price table and sets the top of the range, while a reconditioned pack costs less.
Prices are rough estimates for common cars at independent workshops and vary with the car and the source of the part.

Frequently asked questions
Does P3000 mean the hybrid battery must be replaced?
Not always. The code covers the battery system, and the information sub-code shows whether the problem is the modules, cooling or control. Some cases are fixed by cleaning or repairing a connection.
Can I test the hybrid battery myself?
No. The battery and orange cables carry high voltage that can cause a fatal shock. You can check the 12V battery and clean the visible cooling intake; leave the rest to a specialist.

Tap the stars to rate; you can change it later.
What was wrong? (optional)
This guide is for information only and does not replace an inspection by a qualified technician. If the fault involves brakes, steering, engine temperature, electrics or refrigerant, do not attempt the repair yourself.
