What it means
This is a Toyota hybrid-specific code; the same number can mean something different on other makes. In a hybrid, the hybrid control system requests a set power from the gasoline engine, and it found the actual power lower than requested. The most common cause is low fuel, followed by restricted air or dirty sensors.
Models covered: Toyota hybrids (e.g. Prius, Camry Hybrid), mainly earlier generations.

- On engines with EGR, check the valve and passages for clogging.

Does this code need a hybrid specialist?
Most causes are in the gasoline engine itself, but diagnosis needs a scan tool that reads the hybrid system. Do not touch the orange high-voltage cables when working in the engine bay.
