What it means

The diesel particulate filter (DPF) pressure sensor measures the pressure difference across the filter so the computer can estimate the soot load and decide when to burn it off (regeneration). The engine computer found a general electrical fault in the sensor A circuit, so it no longer knows the filter condition accurately and may limit power as a precaution.

Symptoms4

Check engine light on, possibly with the DPF warning light.
Engine in limp mode with a clear loss of power.
Automatic regenerations stop or happen irregularly.
Higher fuel consumption.

Loose connector or one corroded by heat and moisture.
Sensor wiring damaged by the hot exhaust nearby.
Failed sensor.
Fault in the reference supply or ground shared with other sensors.
Engine computer fault (rare).

How to diagnose5

Read all stored codes; codes for other sensors on the same supply point to a reference supply fault.
Inspect the connector and wiring for melted insulation or corrosion.
Watch the differential pressure reading on a scan tool with the engine off; it should be close to zero.
Measure the reference supply and ground against the manufacturer specification.
Check continuity of the signal wire between the sensor and the computer.

Clean and reseat the connector, or replace it.
Repair damaged wiring and route it away from the exhaust.
Replace the DPF pressure sensor if it is proven faulty.
Clear the codes, run a scan-tool regeneration if the manufacturer recommends it, and confirm the code does not return.
