What it means

The transmission control module (TCM) has found that the actual gear does not match the commanded gear when shift solenoid B is operated, meaning the solenoid is not directing fluid as it should. The electrical circuit is usually fine, and the problem is mostly hydraulic, such as a clogged solenoid or low fluid.

A delayed or missing shift, such as jumping straight past a gear.
Slipping with a sudden engine speed flare on some shifts.
Transmission entering limp mode.

Command solenoid B with the scan tool if possible and see whether the gear changes.
Inspect the pan and filter for debris, metal or friction material.
Have the removed solenoid bench tested or its hydraulic circuit pressure measured if a test port exists.

Top up with the correct fluid, or change it and the filter.
Replace shift solenoid B or the solenoid pack if it is proven to stick.
Clean or replace the valve body if its valves or bores are worn.
Repair internal leaks or worn clutches if proven.
