What it means

This code appears on LG dishwashers with a digital display and means the amount of water in the dishwasher went above the allowed limit. The usual causes are heavy suds from an unsuitable detergent, a water inlet valve that does not close fully, or a fault in the level sensor or flow meter. The dishwasher usually tries to pump out the extra water, and there is a risk of leaking onto the floor; the same code can mean something else on other brands.

How to diagnose5

Turn off the supply tap, unplug the dishwasher and dry any water on the floor.
Make sure you use a dishwasher detergent in the right amount, and that the rinse aid cap is closed.
If there are heavy suds, wipe them out with a cloth, let the unit drain, then run a short rinse with no detergent.
Watch whether water enters with the unit unplugged and the tap open; if so, the inlet valve is not closing.
A technician unplugs the dishwasher before opening it and checks the inlet valve, level sensor or float and flow meter against the manufacturer specification, then the main board.

Use the right detergent in the right amount and remove excess suds.
Close the rinse aid dispenser properly, or repair its cap if it leaks.
Replace the water inlet valve if it lets water through when closed.
Repair or replace the level sensor, float or flow meter.

Frequently asked questions

I used regular dish soap. Is that the cause?

Very likely. Hand dish soap makes thick foam that fills the dishwasher, confuses the level reading and can cause leaks. Wipe out the suds, run a rinse with no detergent, then use proper dishwasher detergent.

Can I keep using the dishwasher with this code?

No. Turn off the tap and unplug it until the cause is found, because a stuck valve can keep letting water in and leak onto the floor.
