Leak Detected in the Base (Aquastop)
What it means
This code appears on Bosch front-load washing machines when the Aquastop leak protection float detects water collected in the base tray. The machine shuts off the water supply and may run the drain pump to protect the floor, and it will not run until the leak is dealt with. The same number can mean something else on other brands.
Models covered: Bosch front-load washing machines; newer models show E codes, older ones (e.g. Maxx, Logixx) F codes.

- The program stops and E23 shows on the display.
- On some models the drain pump keeps running even with the program off.
- Water or damp marks under or around the machine.
- The code returns right after a restart or a few minutes after filling.
Possible causes6
- The drain pump filter cap was not closed tightly after cleaning.
- Excess foam overflowing from the tub due to the wrong detergent or too much of it.
- A leak from the inlet or drain hose connection inside the machine.
- A torn door seal or a cracked internal hose between the drawer and the tub.
- A leak from the drain pump or the inlet valve.
- A faulty float switch giving a false alarm (less common).
How to diagnose5
- Turn off the water tap first, then unplug the machine.
- Make sure the pump filter cap is fully closed, and check the floor and the external inlet hose for the leak source.
- Check the door seal for tears or trapped clothing, and make sure a front-loader detergent is used at the correct dose.
- A technician unplugs the machine before opening it, then finds the leak with a supervised test run after reconnecting, checking hoses, the pump and the inlet valve.
- Water in the base tray is only dried out, or the machine tilted to clear the alarm, after the leak source is found and fixed; the float and its switch are then checked for free movement.

- Close the pump filter cap tightly and replace its rubber ring if damaged.
- Use less detergent and a type made for front-loaders.
- Have the technician replace the leaking hose, connection or door seal.
- Have the drain pump or inlet valve replaced if the leak comes from there.
- After the repair, dry the base, run a short program while watching the floor, and confirm the code does not return.

Can I tilt the machine to empty the base and keep using it?
That only clears the alarm for now. Do it only after the leak source is found and fixed, otherwise the leak comes back and can damage the floor or reach electrical parts.
The code appeared right after I cleaned the pump filter. Why?
The cap was probably not closed tightly or its rubber ring shifted, so water leaked into the base. Turn off the tap, unplug, tighten the cap, and call a technician to dry the base if the code stays.
Why does the pump run on its own with this code?
On some models the machine runs the pump when it detects water in the base to reduce flood risk. This is a protective action, not an extra fault.
