What it means

This code appears on LG inverter split air conditioners and on LG ducted and cassette units that use CH codes. It means the thermistor on the middle of the condenser coil in the outdoor unit is giving an impossible reading because of an open or short circuit. The unit relies on this sensor to protect the compressor from high condensing temperature, so it normally stops the compressor. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

Models covered: LG inverter split air conditioners (e.g. Dual Inverter) and LG ducted/cassette units that use CH codes; the code shows as CH plus a number on the display or as LED blinks.

The outdoor unit stops a short time after starting.
The code may be intermittent and show more after washing or in humid weather.

Sensor slipped out of its holder on the condenser pipe, or a loose clip.
Sensor worn out by heat and moisture over time.
Cut or chafed wire from sharp metal edges or pests.
Loose or corroded connector on the outdoor PCB.
Faulty sensor input on the outdoor PCB.

How to diagnose5

Switch off the breaker for a few minutes, then restart.
The technician waits for the board to discharge, then traces the sensor wire from the condenser to the board.
Measure the sensor resistance against the LG resistance-temperature table.
Confirm the sensor sits in its holder on the pipe and the connector is clean.
If the sensor is good, check the sensor input on the outdoor PCB.

Refit the sensor in its holder and clean the connector.
Repair the wire and protect it from sharp edges.
Replace the condenser sensor (often supplied as an outdoor sensor set).
Replace the outdoor PCB if the sensor is good.
Run the unit long enough and confirm the code does not return.

Does CH45 mean the condenser is dirty?

No. This code means an electrical fault in the sensor or its wiring. A truly hot condenser from dirt sets a different code, CH61.

Can the condenser sensor be replaced alone?

Yes if it is sold separately, but many models use one outdoor sensor set, so the whole set is replaced.
