What it means

This code appears on LG inverter split air conditioners and on LG ducted and cassette units that use CH codes. It means the outdoor air thermistor on the outdoor unit is giving an impossible reading because of an open or short circuit. The unit uses this reading to set compressor and outdoor fan speed, so depending on the model it stops the compressor or runs in a limited protective mode. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

Models covered: LG inverter split air conditioners (e.g. Dual Inverter) and LG ducted/cassette units that use CH codes; the code shows as CH plus a number on the display or as LED blinks.

Water got into the sensor or its connector during a high-pressure wash.
Cut or corroded sensor wire.
Loose or corroded connector on the outdoor PCB.
Faulty sensor input on the outdoor PCB.

How to diagnose5

Switch off the breaker for a few minutes and restart; if the code appeared after washing, let the unit dry and try again.
A technician checks the sensor in its holder behind the condenser and its wire up to the board.
Measure the sensor resistance against the LG table at the current air temperature.
Inspect the connector and socket for water or corrosion.
If the sensor is good, check the sensor input on the outdoor PCB.

Dry and clean the connector and refit the sensor in its holder.
Repair and insulate a cut wire.
Replace the outdoor air sensor with the correct part.
Replace the outdoor PCB if its sensor input is faulty.
Run the unit and confirm normal cooling without the code.
