What it means

This code appears on LG inverter split air conditioners and on LG ducted and cassette units that use CH codes. It means the metal heat sink that cools the IPM on the outdoor inverter board went above its safe temperature. The unit slows or stops the compressor to protect the board, then restarts after cooling. Left unrepaired, it can damage the IPM. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

Models covered: LG inverter split air conditioners (e.g. Dual Inverter) and LG ducted/cassette units that use CH codes; the code shows as CH plus a number on the display or as LED blinks.

CH62 shows in hot periods; cooling stops, then comes back.
Weak cooling with repeated compressor stops at midday.
The outdoor fan is weak or stopped, or the outdoor unit sits in direct sun.

Weak or stopped outdoor fan, which moves air across the heat sink.
Dust on the condenser and heat sink fins, or poor ventilation around the outdoor unit.
Heavy compressor load in extreme heat or from an incorrect refrigerant charge.
Dried thermal paste between the IPM and heat sink, or loose mounting screws.
Faulty heat sink temperature sensor or outdoor PCB.

How to diagnose5

Switch off at the breaker, let the unit cool, and clear anything around the outdoor unit.
When running, confirm the outdoor fan turns at normal speed.
A technician washes the condenser and checks the heat sink fins are clean.
After discharge, check the IPM mounting on the heat sink and the state of the thermal paste.
Measure pressures and compressor current, and check the heat sink sensor per the LG manual.

Wash the condenser, clear around the outdoor unit and give it ventilation and shade.
Repair the outdoor fan or replace its motor.
Remount the IPM with fresh thermal paste and correct screw torque.
Correct the refrigerant charge if wrong (licensed technician).
Replace the outdoor PCB if the built-in sensor or the board is faulty.
Run the unit in hot conditions and confirm the code does not return.

Why does CH62 show only at midday?

High air temperature reduces how well air cools the heat sink; with a weak fan or dirty condenser, it reaches the protection limit in the hottest hours.

Can this code damage the inverter?

The code is a protection, but repeated overheating over time stresses the IPM and can destroy it, turning into a costlier fault such as CH21.
