What it means

This is a Nissan-specific code for vehicles with ASCD cruise control; the same number can mean something different on other makes. The engine computer receives two separate signals from the brake pedal, one from the ASCD brake switch and one from the stop lamp switch, and they must agree logically. The code sets when the two signals disagree while driving, and cruise control is canceled as a precaution.

Models covered: Nissan models with ASCD (cruise control), mainly around 2002–2010.

Watch both the ASCD brake switch and stop lamp switch signals on a Nissan-capable scan tool while pressing and releasing the pedal.
Check both switches' adjustment at the pedal per the service manual and confirm their plungers are intact.
Check the fuse, connectors and wiring at the brake pedal.

Why are there two switches at the brake pedal?

For safety. The computer compares both signals to make sure braking will always cancel cruise control. If they disagree, it cancels cruise and stores the code.

One of the switches was most likely moved or knocked out of adjustment while working near the pedal, and readjusting it per the service manual usually fixes it.
