What it means
The torque converter links the engine to an automatic transmission, and its lock-up clutch creates a direct connection at steady speeds to save fuel. This code means the computer commanded lock-up, but the engine and transmission are still slipping relative to each other.
Symptoms
- Higher engine speed than normal when cruising on the highway.
- Increased fuel consumption.
- Higher transmission fluid temperature.
- Slight shudder at certain speeds.
- Check engine light on.

- Low, old or burnt transmission fluid.
- Failed torque converter clutch solenoid.
- Worn lock-up clutch inside the torque converter.
