What it means

An input speed sensor signal is present, but the computer finds it implausible, such as sudden jumps or a value that does not agree with engine speed, output speed and the current gear. The cause can be a sensor or signal problem, or real slipping inside the transmission.

How to diagnose5

Check the transmission fluid level and condition first.
Record input speed, output speed and engine speed while driving, and look for sudden jumps or a mismatch with the gear.
Check the sensor signal with an oscilloscope for missing pulses or noise.
Inspect the wiring for damage or routing near noise sources such as ignition coils.
Remove the sensor if possible and inspect its tip, and check for debris in the pan.

Repair the wiring and reroute it away from noise sources.
Clean the sensor tip or replace the sensor.
