What it means

Shown as a key with a battery next to it, usually amber (many cars show a text message instead), this light means the small battery inside the remote key fob is weak and the fob may soon stop unlocking the doors or allowing keyless start. It is a reminder, not a fault in the car itself, and it does not normally glow at key-on.

Try the spare key; if the warning disappears, the problem is in the first fob.
Open the fob and check the battery, its orientation and the contacts for corrosion.
At a workshop or dealer: test the fob signal strength and read codes from the keyless entry module.

Replace the battery with the correct size, facing the right way.
Gently clean the battery contacts inside the fob.
Repair the fob case if it is broken and the battery does not stay in place.
Replace the fob and program a new key if its circuit board is damaged.
