Overflow (Too Much Water)

What it means

This code appears on LG front-load and top-load washing machines and means the water level in the drum went above the allowed limit. The most common cause is a water inlet valve that does not close fully, so water keeps coming in, or a water level (pressure) sensor that reads wrong. The washer usually tries to pump out the extra water, but there is a real risk of flooding; the same code can mean something else on other brands.

How to diagnose5

1. Turn off the water tap at once and unplug the washer.
2. If there is a lot of water in the drum, drain it through the pump filter using a towel and tray, taking care with hot water.
3. Watch whether water enters with the washer unplugged and the tap open; if it does, the inlet valve is not closing.
4. Make sure you use a detergent made for automatic washers, in the right amount.
5. A technician unplugs the washer before opening it and checks the inlet valve, the level sensor and its hose against the manufacturer specification, then the main board.

1. Use the right detergent in the right amount if suds are the cause.
2. Replace the water inlet valve if it lets water through when closed.
3. Clear the level sensor hose or replace the sensor.
4. Replace the main board if it is proven to hold the valve open.
