What it means

This code appears on Electrolux (and AEG) front-load washing machines when the signal between the main control board and the display and button board is lost, or invalid data is detected between them. The cause can be a one-off power glitch, a loose connection or moisture, and sometimes a failed board. E90 stands for a family of sub-codes, the meaning should be confirmed for your model, and the same number can mean something else on other brands.

Models covered: Electrolux (and AEG) front-load washing machines; the code shows on the display or as blinking lights. Sub-codes (e.g. E11, E21) belong to the same family.

How to diagnose5

Unplug the washer for several minutes, then restart; if the code disappears, it may have been a one-off glitch.
Make sure the washer is plugged directly into a sound socket, not a loose extension, and use a voltage protector if the supply fluctuates.
Make sure there is no water leak near the control panel or detergent drawer.
A technician unplugs the washer before opening it, then checks the cable and plugs between the boards for looseness or corrosion.
The technician identifies which board has failed before replacing it; a new main board may need programming for the model.
