What it means

This code appears on Samsung inverter split wall units such as WindFree and Digital Inverter. It means the indoor board is not getting a valid speed signal from the indoor fan motor, so the fan is stopped or far from its target speed. The unit stops to protect the motor. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

E154 shows and little or no air comes from the indoor unit.
Rubbing or vibration inside the indoor unit.
The fan starts, then stops after a few seconds.
On WindFree units the user may notice weak airflow before the code appears.

Dirt and mold built up on the cross-flow fan, making it heavy or blocking it.
A foreign object caught in the fan, or the fan slipping on the motor shaft.
Worn motor bearing or fan rubber bushing.
Loose or corroded motor connector.
Failed fan motor.
Faulty fan drive circuit on the indoor PCB.

How to diagnose5

Switch off the breaker, open the louvers and turn the fan gently with a plastic stick to check it spins freely.
Use a torch to look for heavy dirt or a trapped object inside the fan.
A technician checks the motor plug on the board and the wiring.
Test the motor and board per the Samsung service manual, or try a known-good motor.
Confirm the fan is fixed on the shaft and the bushing at the other end is intact.

Deep-clean the cross-flow fan and the indoor unit.
Remove the trapped object, re-seat the fan on the shaft and replace a worn bushing.
Secure and clean the motor plug.
Replace the indoor fan motor.
Replace the indoor PCB if the motor is good.
Run the unit at all speeds and confirm the code does not return.

Sometimes yes. Dust and mold on the cross-flow fan add weight and unbalance it, so its speed falls below target and the code appears.

Should I clean the fan myself?

You can clean the filters and remove visible dirt after switching off, but a deep clean of the cross-flow fan is better left to a technician to avoid breaking blades or wetting the board.
