What it means

This code appears on Samsung inverter split wall units such as WindFree and Digital Inverter. It means the thermistor on the evaporator inlet pipe is open or shorted. The unit needs this sensor to watch coil temperature and prevent freezing, so it normally stops the compressor. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

Models covered: Samsung inverter split air conditioners (e.g. WindFree and Digital Inverter wall units) that show three-digit E codes on the display.

How to diagnose5

Switch off the breaker for a few minutes, then restart.
A technician checks the sensor sits in its holder on the evaporator pipe and the wire is intact.
Measure the sensor resistance against the Samsung table.
Inspect the plug and socket for corrosion or moisture.
If the sensor is good, check the sensor input on the indoor board.

How to fix5

Refit the sensor and clean and dry the connector.
Repair the damaged wire.
Replace the evaporator inlet sensor (it may come as an indoor sensor set).
Replace the indoor PCB if the sensor is proven good.
Run the unit and confirm cooling without the code returning.

Frequently asked questions

Does E122 mean low refrigerant?

No. The code concerns the sensor or its wiring. Low refrigerant or a leak is shown by Samsung with a different code, such as E554.

Can a faulty sensor cause the coil to freeze?

The unit stops the compressor when the code shows to avoid that, but a sensor that misreads without setting a code can cause freezing or unsteady cooling.
