What it means

This code appears only on engines with two banks (V6, V8 and similar). The engine computer found that the downstream sensor signal on the bank without cylinder 1 stayed low (showing lean) even while the mixture was enriched. The most common causes are an exhaust leak near the sensor or a weak sensor.

A Bank 2 catalytic converter efficiency code may appear with it.

Ticking noise from the exhaust if a leak is the cause.

Fix any lean or misfire codes such as P0174 first.
Locate Bank 2 and its downstream sensor in the service information, since bank naming varies by make.
Watch the sensor voltage during hard acceleration and compare it with the Bank 1 downstream sensor.
Check the Bank 2 side of the exhaust for leaks ahead of the sensor.
Inspect the sensor wiring and connector for a short to ground or contact with the exhaust.

Repair the damaged wire or connector.
Fix the cause of any lean condition on Bank 2.
