What it means

This is a Honda- and Acura-specific code; the same number can mean something different on other makes. The engine computer received no signal at all from the top dead center (TDC) sensor inside the distributor. Without it the engine may not start or may stall while driving.

Models covered: Honda and Acura models with distributor-mounted TDC/CKP/CYP sensors, mainly 1990s to early 2000s.

Confirm the distributor shaft turns when the engine is cranked; if not, check the timing belt at once.
Inspect the distributor connector and wiring for disconnection or breaks.
Measure sensor signal or resistance against the manufacturer specification.
Check inside the distributor for oil or damage.
Check for CYP or CKP codes too; together they point to the distributor or shared wiring.

Reconnect the connector or repair the open wire.
Replace the distributor seal and clean it if oil caused the damage.
Replace the sensor or the whole distributor, depending on part availability.
Replace the timing belt if broken, and check the engine before starting.
Set ignition timing, clear the code and confirm normal starting.
