CYP Sensor Intermittent Interruption
What it means
This is a Honda- and Acura-specific code; the same number can mean something different on other makes. The cylinder position (CYP) sensor inside the distributor tells the computer where cylinder 1 is so it can fire the injectors in sequence. The code means its signal drops out now and then, which can cause on-and-off roughness.
Models covered: Honda and Acura models with distributor-mounted TDC/CKP/CYP sensors, mainly 1990s to early 2000s.

- Clean and reseat the connector or repair the wire.
- Replace the distributor seal and clean the inside.
- Replace the sensor or the whole distributor, depending on part availability.
- Set ignition timing, then clear the code and road-test.
