What it means

The engine computer has seen the signal voltage from camshaft position sensor B on bank 1 stay above its normal limit. This is usually caused by an open signal or ground wire or a short to voltage, so normal pulses do not reach the computer.

Check engine light on.
Reduced power because exhaust cam variable valve timing (VVT) is disabled.
Long cranking on some vehicles.
Occasional slight roughness.

How to diagnose5

Watch the signal voltage on a scan tool and compare it with cam sensor A on the same bank.
Inspect the connector for loose or corroded terminals.
Check continuity of the signal and ground wires back to the engine computer.
Unplug the sensor and confirm there is no unexpected voltage on the signal wire.
If the circuit is sound, replace the sensor or swap it with sensor A if identical.
