What it means

The engine computer has seen the signal voltage from camshaft position sensor A stay below its normal limit for a set time. This usually means a short to ground or a loss of sensor supply, so the computer loses track of cam position and runs in a backup mode.

How to diagnose5

Read all codes; reference voltage codes such as P0641 or low-voltage codes on other sensors point to a shared supply problem.
Unplug the sensor and measure supply voltage at the connector with the ignition on, then compare it with the manufacturer specification.
Check the signal wire for a short to ground by measuring resistance to the body with the connectors unplugged.
Inspect the harness near hot or moving parts for damaged insulation.
If wiring and supply are good and voltage stays low with the sensor connected, the sensor is the main suspect.

How to fix5

Repair and insulate the shorted section of wiring, and secure the harness away from the rubbing point.
Clean the connector and fix any oil leak reaching it.
Repair the reference supply circuit or the other sensor causing the short, if found.
Replace the camshaft position sensor if an internal short is confirmed.
Clear the codes and start the engine several times to confirm the code does not return.
