What it means

This code means the engine computer found an open or short in the fuel injector circuit for cylinder 6, which is common on six-cylinder engines. Cylinder 6 then runs with too little fuel or none at all, causing a misfire and shaking.

How to diagnose6

Locate cylinder 6 using the service information before testing, because numbering differs between manufacturers.
Inspect the cylinder 6 injector connector and wiring for corrosion or heat damage.
Measure the cylinder 6 injector resistance at the connector or at the computer end and compare it with the specification.
Confirm supply voltage and drive pulses at injector 6 with a noid light or an oscilloscope.
If it is reachable, swap the cylinder 6 injector with another injector on the same bank and see if the code moves.
Do not use an ordinary test light on direct-injection or diesel circuits, because they use high voltage.

How to fix6

Clean or replace the cylinder 6 injector connector.
Repair the damaged wire in the cylinder 6 injector harness.
Replace a failed fuse or relay.
Replace the cylinder 6 injector if it is proven faulty, along with its seals.
Test or replace the engine computer only after ruling out other causes.
Clear the codes, then road test and confirm the code does not return.
