What it means

The fuel temperature sensor measures fuel temperature so the engine computer can correct injection quantity and timing, since fuel density changes with temperature; it is common on diesel engines and on some gasoline and flex-fuel engines. The computer has found a fault in this sensor's circuit and uses a default value instead of the real reading.

Check the reference voltage and ground at the connector, then measure sensor resistance against the manufacturer temperature chart.
If the circuit is sound and the reading is implausible, replace the sensor.
