Intake Air Temperature Sensor Circuit High Input
What it means
The intake air temperature sensor is sending an abnormally high voltage, which the computer reads as extremely cold air or an open circuit. The cause is more often an unplugged connector or broken wire than a failed sensor.

- Check engine light on.
- Slightly higher fuel consumption.
- Occasionally mild hard starting.
- Often no noticeable symptoms.
Possible causes
- Sensor connector left unplugged, often after an air filter change.
- Broken wire or corroded connector.
- Failed sensor.
- On many cars the sensor is built into the mass airflow sensor, so the whole unit is replaced.
How to diagnose and fix
- Make sure the sensor connector is firmly attached, especially after recent service.
- Inspect the wiring for breaks or chafing.
- Check the air temperature reading with a scan tool; an implausibly cold value suggests an open circuit.
- Test the sensor resistance or replace it.
