What it means

This code appears on LG dishwashers with a digital display and means the dishwasher could not heat the water to the required temperature within the set time. The cause is usually the heater or its wiring, too little water reaching it, or the temperature sensor (thermistor). The cycle may stop, or it ends with dishes not clean or still wet; the same code can mean something else on other brands.

How to diagnose5

Unplug the dishwasher for a few minutes, clean the filter in the bottom, then restart.
Make sure the dishwasher is plugged straight into a sound socket, not an extension lead, because the heater draws high current.
Make sure the water tap is fully open and water enters normally.
If the code repeats, a technician unplugs the dishwasher before opening it and measures the heater and temperature sensor against the manufacturer specification.
The technician checks the heater connectors and wiring, then the main board output to the heater if those parts test good.

Clean the filter and make sure water enters normally.
Repair corroded heater connectors or wiring.
Replace the heater if it is proven faulty.
Replace the temperature sensor if its reading is out of specification.
Replace the main board only if it is proven not to power the heater.
Run a hot cycle and confirm the dishes come out warm and clean without the code returning.

What is the difference between HE and TE?

HE means the water did not heat as expected, while TE means the temperature sensor reading itself is impossible. They can overlap, so the technician checks the heater and sensor together.
