What it means

This code appears on Gree inverter split air conditioners when the IPM power module on the outdoor board detects overcurrent, overheating or abnormal compressor drive, and stops the compressor immediately to protect itself. The unit may restart after a few minutes, but repeats mean a compressor, board or power supply fault. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

• Mechanically tight compressor or faulty windings.

How to diagnose5

1. Switch off at the breaker for several minutes, restart once and note when the code shows.
2. Clean the outdoor unit and make sure it is well ventilated.
3. The technician measures supply voltage during the start attempt.
4. After confirming the outdoor board capacitors are discharged, the technician checks the compressor terminals and their board connector.
5. The technician measures compressor winding resistance, balance and insulation, then tests the IPM following the manufacturer procedure.

How to fix5

1. Clean the condenser and the outdoor board heat sink, and improve ventilation.
2. Tighten or replace burnt compressor leads and connector.
3. Fit a voltage protector if a weak or unstable supply is confirmed.
4. Replace the outdoor inverter board at an authorized service center.
5. Replace the inverter compressor if it is tight or its windings are faulty, then run, monitor current and confirm the code is gone.
