What it means

On Siemens dishwashers this code appears when water does not leave the unit in the expected time because of a blockage in the drain path, such as the filters, the drain hose or the drain connection under the sink. The program stops and water stays in the bottom. The same number can mean something else on other brands.

A drain hose kinked or squeezed after pushing the unit into place.
A drain connection or sink trap blocked with grease and food.
Blocked filters in the bottom of the tub.
A stuck non-return valve in the drain path.
A blocked or weak drain pump.

How to diagnose5

Unplug the unit, take out and clean the filters, and scoop out the remaining water.
Check the drain hose route behind the unit, especially if it was recently pushed into the cabinet.
Check and clean the sink trap, because a blocked trap also stops the dishwasher draining.
If the hose connects to a new trap, make sure the internal blanking plug was removed from the connection.
If the code remains, a technician unplugs the unit before taking it apart and checks the pump and the non-return valve.

Clean the filters and refit them firmly.
Reroute the drain hose so it is not squeezed behind the unit.
Clean the sink trap and drain connection.
Have the technician replace the non-return valve or drain pump if needed.
Run a short program and confirm all water drains and the code does not return.

Can a blocked sink trap cause E24?

Yes. The dishwasher often drains into the same sink trap, and if it is blocked with grease the water cannot leave the dishwasher in time.

The code appeared after refitting the dishwasher. Why?

The drain hose most likely kinked or got squeezed behind the unit when it was pushed back. Pull it out a little and reroute the hose.

How is it different from E25 on Siemens?

E24 usually points to a blockage in the drain path outside the pump, while E25 points to a blockage at the drain pump itself.
