What it means

A module on the network is no longer receiving messages from door module B, which on many vehicles is the front passenger door module, though the maker decides the naming. This module runs that door's window, lock and mirror. Common causes are similar to other doors, mainly the wiring in the rubber boot between the door and the body and water getting into the door.

How to diagnose5

Use the service information to find which door the letter B refers to on your vehicle.
Check the door module fuse, and see whether U0199 or other door codes are also present.
Open and close the door while watching the window or the scan tool connection to see whether the fault is in the boot wiring.
Inspect the wires inside the rubber boot and the door connector at the pillar.
Check the door module for water, and measure power, ground and the network lines at its connector.

How to fix5

Replace the blown fuse.
Repair broken wires inside the rubber boot with proper soldering and insulation.
Dry the door module, clean the connector and renew the inner door seal.
Replace the door module if proven faulty, then program it or run the window learn procedure as the manufacturer instructs.
Clear the codes and test the window, lock and mirror from that door and from the driver door.

Frequently asked questions

Why doesn't the passenger window work from the driver switches?

The driver door switches send the command over the network to the passenger door module. If that module has lost communication, the command never arrives, and its own switch may not work either.

Can this code appear after a car wash?

It can if the inner door seal is damaged and water reaches the module or its connector. Dry the door and check the seal; if the code returns, the module may be damaged.
