Throttle Actuator A Control Motor Circuit/Open
What it means
On cars with electronic throttle control, a small electric motor opens the throttle based on accelerator pedal input. The engine computer has detected an open or electrical fault in this motor circuit, and it usually enters limp mode and limits engine power.
Symptoms4
- Check engine light on, sometimes with the electronic throttle warning light.
- Severe loss of power and limited response to the accelerator.
- Slightly high, fixed idle in limp mode.
- Occasional stalling when slowing down.
Possible causes5
- Loose or corroded throttle body connector.
- Broken or chafed wiring between the throttle body and the engine computer.
- Blown fuse or failed throttle control relay on vehicles that use one.
- Failed motor inside the throttle body.
- Driver circuit fault inside the engine computer (ECU), which is rare.
How to diagnose5
- Read all stored codes and record the freeze frame data before clearing.
- Inspect the throttle body connector for looseness, corrosion or loose pins.
- Check the throttle fuse and relay if the vehicle uses them.
- Measure the throttle motor resistance against the manufacturer specification and check wiring continuity to the computer.
- Wiggle the wiring while watching scan tool data to find an intermittent open.
How to fix5
- Clean or repair the connector and secure it properly.
- Replace the faulty fuse or relay.
- Repair broken or chafed wiring.
- Replace the throttle body if its motor has failed, then perform the throttle relearn.
- Clear the codes and confirm the car leaves limp mode and the code does not return.
Repair cost
In Saudi riyals; the highlighted part is the expected range for this fault.
The cost is low for a connector, wire or fuse, and reaches the upper end when the complete throttle body is replaced.
Prices are rough estimates for common cars at independent workshops and vary with the car and the source of the part.

Frequently asked questions
Can I drive with this code?
Only a short distance and carefully, because power is limited and the engine may stall when slowing. Avoid highways and head to a workshop.
Do I need a new throttle body?
Not always. A corroded connector or wire is often the cause, so test the circuit before replacing the throttle body.

What was wrong? (optional)
This guide is for information only and does not replace an inspection by a qualified technician. If the fault involves brakes, steering, engine temperature, electrics or refrigerant, do not attempt the repair yourself.
