What it means

The engine computer has detected a fault in the electronic throttle system or its sensors, so it restricted throttle opening and limited engine power, commonly called limp mode. This code is the result of another fault, so it usually appears with a code that names the cause.

Clear loss of power and very slow acceleration.
Check engine light on, sometimes with the electronic throttle warning light.
Limited accelerator response even at full pedal.
Other throttle or pedal sensor codes are stored.

Carbon-fouled throttle body that does not move as the computer commands.
Faulty accelerator pedal position sensor, or its two signals do not agree.
Faulty throttle position sensor or throttle motor.
Corroded connectors or wiring faults.
Low battery or charging system voltage.

Read all stored codes and start with the accompanying codes, since they name the cause.
Check battery voltage and the charging system.
Watch commanded and actual throttle position and both pedal sensor readings on a scan tool.
Inspect the throttle body for carbon.
Inspect the throttle body and pedal sensor connectors for corrosion or looseness.

Clean the throttle body and perform the relearn procedure.
Repair corroded connectors or wiring.
Fix a weak battery or charging fault.
Replace the pedal sensor or throttle body based on the accompanying code and test results.
Clear the codes and confirm normal power returns and the code does not come back.
