What it means

This is a Ford, Lincoln and Mercury code; the same number can mean something different on other makes. The Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) did not recognize the key, so it told the engine computer to disable starting. The engine may start and die within seconds or not start at all, and the cause is usually the key or the key reader around the ignition lock.
