Crankshaft Position Sensor "A" Circuit High

What it means

The crankshaft position (CKP) sensor signal is above what the engine computer expects, or stuck at a high level. This is usually caused by the signal wire shorted to a voltage source, an open signal or ground wire depending on the circuit design, or a failed sensor.

• Hard starting or no start.
• Sudden stalling or stumbling while driving.
• Tachometer flickers or does not move.

3. Measure supply, ground and signal at the sensor connector and compare them with the manufacturer specification.
4. Check continuity of the ground and signal wires between the sensor and the computer.
5. Check the sensor signal while cranking on an oscilloscope if available.

How to fix5

1. Repair the wire shorted to voltage and re-insulate it.
2. Repair an open ground or signal wire.
3. Clean the connector and fix any oil leak reaching it.
4. Replace the CKP sensor if it is proven faulty.
5. Clear the codes, start the engine, road test and confirm the code does not return.
