What it means

The engine computer has detected an electrical fault in the fuel injector circuit for cylinder 7; this code usually appears on eight-cylinder engines. Cylinder 7 then does not get fuel correctly, which causes a misfire in it.

Check engine light on, possibly with code P0307.
Slight engine shaking that may be hard to notice on large engines.
Slight loss of power and higher fuel consumption.
Occasional fuel smell from the exhaust.

Corroded or loose cylinder 7 injector connector.
Open or shorted wire in the cylinder 7 injector harness.
Damaged coil in the cylinder 7 injector.
Injector power problem from a fuse or relay.
Faulty cylinder 7 injector driver inside the engine computer (rare).

How to diagnose6

Locate cylinder 7 using the service information, because cylinder numbering on eight-cylinder engines differs between manufacturers.
Inspect the cylinder 7 injector connector and wiring for corrosion or damage.
Measure the cylinder 7 injector resistance and compare it with the specification and with the other injectors on the same bank.
Check supply voltage and drive pulses at injector 7 with a noid light or an oscilloscope.
On port-injection engines, swap the cylinder 7 injector with a neighboring cylinder's injector and see if the code moves.
Do not use an ordinary test light on direct-injection or diesel circuits, because they use high voltage.

Clean or replace the cylinder 7 injector connector.
Repair the damaged wire in the cylinder 7 injector harness.
Replace a failed fuse or relay.
Replace the cylinder 7 injector if it is proven faulty.
Test or replace the engine computer only after ruling out the harness and injector.
Clear the codes, then road test and confirm the code does not return.

On eight-cylinder engines the other cylinders make up for part of the lost one, but the misfire is still there and harms the catalytic converter over time.

Usually not, unless the cause is shared, such as the power supply or harness; then codes for other injectors or P0200 also appear.

Can I drive with this code?

Only a short distance and gently until it is repaired.
