What it means

Shown as a curved windshield with three wavy upward arrows, usually amber on the climate control button, this light means the climate system is sending maximum airflow to the windshield to clear fog, usually running the A/C compressor to dry the air. Some cars also have an electrically heated windshield with its own button and a similar symbol. It is an on indicator, not a fault, and it does not glow at key-on unless it is switched on.

Symptoms3

The indicator lights after pressing the button and the fan gets louder.
Air comes out of the vents at the base of the windshield.
When faulty: the indicator is on but airflow is weak or missing at the windshield vents, or the fog does not clear.

Switched on by the driver (normal).
Clogged cabin air filter reducing airflow.
Faulty blower motor, blower resistor or blower speed control module.
Faulty air distribution (mode door) actuator, so air does not reach the windshield.
Weak A/C cooling or a compressor fault, so the air stays humid.
Failed heater grid or relay on cars with a heated windshield.

How to diagnose5

Switch it on and feel the air at the windshield vents compared with the other vents.
Check the cabin air filter as the owner's manual shows.
Turn off recirculation and use outside air, because recirculation makes fogging worse.
Listen for clicking behind the dash, which can mean broken gears in the mode door actuator.
At a workshop: read climate control codes and test the blower, resistor and refrigerant pressure.

Replace the cabin air filter.
Repair or replace the blower resistor or speed control module.
Replace the blower motor if it is weak.
Replace and calibrate the mode door actuator.
Repair the A/C system (fix the leak and recharge, or replace the compressor), then confirm fog clears quickly.
