What it means

This code appears on Midea inverter split air conditioners with the classic code set when the outdoor board fails to drive the inverter compressor properly, for example losing its rotation timing or getting no response on start. The compressor stops and the unit retries later. Some Midea series use this code differently, so check the unit manual. The same code can mean something else on other brands.

Models covered: Midea residential split air conditioners with the classic display codes (E0–EC, F1–F4, P0–P4); newer Midea series use different codes (EH, EL, PC) and some models differ.

The compressor tries to start, then stops within seconds.
Humming or vibration from the outdoor unit during the attempt.
No cooling, with the code showing after several attempts.
It may appear after relocation or work on the outdoor unit.

Compressor leads in the wrong order, loose or burnt.
Low supply voltage at start-up.
Mechanically tight compressor, especially after a long idle period or liquid return.
Faulty compressor windings.
Faulty drive circuit or IPM on the outdoor board.
Unequalized pressure at start from restarting straight after a stop, or a restriction in the circuit.

How to diagnose5

Switch off for several minutes so pressures equalize, then restart once.
The technician measures voltage during the start attempt.
After discharging the board, the technician checks the compressor terminals and their order against the wiring diagram.
The technician measures winding resistance, balance and insulation.
The technician decides between board and compressor following the Midea procedure.

Correct the compressor lead order and repair terminals.
Fix low voltage with a voltage protector or a better supply.
Clear any restriction in the circuit.
Replace the outdoor board if its drive circuit is proven faulty.
Replace the inverter compressor if it is tight or its windings are damaged, then confirm it runs smoothly.
