What it means

The instrument cluster is an electronic module that gets its data from other modules over the network, and on many vehicles it also acts as a gateway between the vehicle's networks. This code sets in another module when cluster messages stop arriving. The driver usually notices dead gauges or a blank display, and on some vehicles other functions such as the immobilizer can be affected.

Try to connect to the cluster with a scan tool; if it does not respond, measure power and ground at its connector.
Remove the cluster and inspect its connector for looseness or corrosion.
Check the network lines to the cluster and compare their resistance with the manufacturer specification.
If power and network are good and the gauges cut out when tapped or with heat, the fault is most likely internal.

Replace the blown fuse and charge or replace the battery.
Clean and secure the cluster connector and repair the ground.
Repair damaged network wiring.
