What it means

The engine computer has detected a fault in the C signal circuit within the throttle or accelerator pedal position sensor system. Manufacturers differ in which sensor carries the C signal, but losing any of the safety signals usually makes the computer limit power.

Use the service information to identify which sensor carries the C signal on your vehicle and its wiring.
Watch all the signals on a scan tool while slowly moving the pedal or throttle, looking for a missing or illogical signal.
Inspect the connector and wiring visually and while wiggling them during monitoring.
Measure the reference voltage, ground and signal at the connector and compare them with the manufacturer specification.
Check for reference voltage codes such as P0651 that point to a shared fault.

Clean or replace the connector and reseat it.
Repair damaged wiring in the C signal circuit.
Replace the pedal sensor or throttle body assembly based on the test results.
Perform the throttle and pedal relearn after any replacement if the manufacturer requires it.
