What it means

The engine computer has seen the signal from throttle or pedal position sensor A drop out or jump suddenly for short periods and then recover. This usually points to a weak connection or a worn spot on the sensor track, and the car may suddenly enter limp mode and then return to normal after a restart.

Sudden limp mode with loss of power that clears after turning the engine off and on.
Intermittent jerking or hesitation on the accelerator.

Loose or corroded pins in the sensor connector.

How to diagnose5

Review the freeze frame data to see throttle position and speed when the fault occurred.
Watch the sensor signal on a scan tool while slowly opening the throttle or pressing the pedal, looking for a dropout or jump at a certain point.
Gently move the harness and connector while watching to see if the signal reacts.
Inspect the connector pins and how tightly they grip.
Trace the harness for rubbing points.

How to fix5

Clean and tighten the connector pins, or replace the connector.
Repair the chafed section of the harness and secure it.
Fix any ground or reference voltage fault found.
Replace the sensor, throttle body or pedal assembly if a dropout point appears in the signal.
Run the relearn procedure if required, then clear the codes and road test under similar conditions.
