What it means

Shown as a lamp with downward-slanted lines, green in color, this light means the low beam headlights are on. It is an information light, not a warning, and not every car has it; some only light up the instrument panel. If the indicator is on but a headlight does not work, the bulb, fuse or connector is the usual cause.

Why does the indicator come on by itself in the daytime?

In auto mode the car turns the lights on in darkness, tunnels or dust. If they come on in bright daylight, the light sensor may be dirty or faulty.
